Asbury Park police are investigating two separate incidents over the last week involving a shooting and a stabbing.

On Friday night, Sept. 16, a call was made about disorderly juveniles in the area of 21 Ridge Avenue, police said.

Officer April Bird responded to the call and located a 19-year-old Neptune resident who had been shot in the foot, police said.

The victim said he was approached by a man in a black mask, and the assailant displayed a handgun and ordered the victim to give him everything in his pockets.

The victim attempted to run away, but was shot in the foot by the assailant, sustaining a broken foot.

No arrests have been made yet, but the case is being investigated by the Asbury Park Polices Detective Bureau and the Monmouth County Prosecutors Office.

If anyone has information about the incident, they should call the polices tipline at 1-800-799-8280.

The second outbreak of violence occurred on Sunday, as police received a call at 6:45 pm regarding a fight that had broken out in the 700 block of Sewall Avenue, police said.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found several of the suspects were still fighting.

They located a 28-year-old city resident who was lying on the front lawn at 702 Sewall Avenue.

The victim had sustained several cuts on his face and was cut in the stomach.

The resident was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center, where it took 16 staples to close stomach wound.

Police arrested Gilberto Cortez, 32, a resident of 100 Sewall Avenue and charged him with aggravated assault, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and possession of an unlawful weapon.

Police said Cortez was the man who stabbed the victim.

Four others who were involved in the scuffle were charged with disorderly conduct. The case is still being investigated by city police.
