Athlete of the Week: Sarah Fylak
Ocean goalie shuts down competition
Sarah Fylak, a Senior goalie for the Ocean Township High School Girls Soccer Team, has helped the Spartans get off to a 5-0-1 start to this season.
Fylak has certainly done her part , as she has recorded four shutouts and surrendered only two goals in six games this season. She had 13 saves in a 1-1 tie against Middletown North last Friday.
Head Coach Kelly Corcione said the teams solid defense has helped Fylak shut down opponents and keep them off the scoreboard.
Fylak said her teams defense has been really solid.
I feel really confident with them in front of me, she said.
Fylak said she kind of likes the pressure of playing goalie, a position she said one has to be a little crazy to play.

Sarah Fylak, a senior at Ocean Township High School, is the goalie for the varsity girls soccer team.
Her favorite quote is one the team keeps in the locker room:
Hard work will overcome talent, but the talented who work hard will overcome everyone.
Her favorite soccer player? Briana Scurry, the goalie for the United States womens soccer team from 1994-1999, who helped the U.S. capture the World Cup title in 1999.
Outside of soccer, Fylaks big passion is music. She said her favorite classes are in music theory and she even writes her own music.
The senior said she is applying to Drexel University, Northeastern, and The College of New Jersey, but isnt exactly sure where she wants to go to college yet.
For the time being she is enjoying the fun and success her team is having.
She said being in her final year makes her appreciate her experiences even more.
All the girls are so great, she said. Its just a great time. We have such a good time together.
