The crowd was large and very boisterous Saturday morning. Two teams which are highly ranked in the Shore Conference faced off for a field hockey battle. It was more like a war that morning with the Bulldogs of Rumson-Fair Haven traveling to Ocean where the Spartans hosted them in a nondivisional game.
Ocean is ranked first in the Shore Conference while the Bulldogs are sitting in fourth. So far this season Rumson-Fair Haven have beaten the Blue Devils of Shore Regional, the first time in thirty-four years Shore has lost to a divisional rival. Now the dogs were looking to take down a Spartan.
Rumson-Fair haven scored the lone first half goal. Brittny Cantor was the Bulldog who surprised the Spartans early in the game. That goal was scored at 18:24. Ocean head coach Donna DeNoble spoke with her team at halftime and told them that they could win the game if they played as a team.

Alex DeVito (11) of Ocean Township fights for the ball with a Rumson-Fair Haven opponent. DeVito scored the goal to tie the game.
Ocean players listened to their coach and scored first in the second half. Jenna Galatro scored an unassisted goal at 37:10. Rumson-Fair Haven was determined to win the game and three minutes later Ali Axt scored the go ahead goal.
DeNoble told her players to keep their chins up and play their game. Once again the Spartans had to fight back from a deficit. Colleen Meseroll started towards the Bulldog goal and found teammate Alex DeVito open and sent her a perfect pass which DeVito hammered into the Rumson-Fair Haven goal at 57:38.
