Forum Planned on Neptune City School Referendum

By ELLEN CARROLL

Neptune City residents are invited to attend a forum Dec. 8 to learn more about the referendum planned for Dec. 13 to improve safety and upgrade facilities at the boroughs only grammar school.

The forum will he held in the gymnasium of the Woodrow Wilson School, off West Sylvania Avenue.

Voters will be asked to approve a multi-million dollar referendum to upgrade windows, the boiler and boiler room, the heat distribution system and some doors.

The Board of Education also wants to consolidate offices now scattered throughout the building into the new section and install doors to prevent people from walking from the offices into the building.

The state has also told the board to install a bathroom in one of the kindergarten classrooms.

The oldest section of the school was built in 1929. The second section was built in 1956 and the third section in 1967.

There will be two questions on the ballot.

The first question is for projects totalling $7.3 million. The state guarantees $3.1 million.

The second question would cost $2.7 million with taxpayers contributing $2.2 million.

If the first question fails, the second will also fail (even if voters approve).

If the first question passes and the second one fails, the board can still go ahead with some repairs and upgrades.
