Where were you when President Kennedy was shot?


Shirley Epstein, Neptune & Marie Thompson, Long Island
Shirley: I was in West Side High School. Our principal came in and said the president was shot. Everybody went to the auditorium and watched it on tv. I love him. I cried like a baby. He was handsome, plus he was a good president.
Marie: I was in the girls room in the fourth grade. It was like yesterday. We stood there in awe.


Ramon Rodriquez, Neptune
I was taking my physical to go in the army on Whitehall Street in New York City.
One of the sergeants asked a group of us if we assassinated President Kennedy.
We thought he was joking. Wed been there all day and didnt realize he was telling the truth.
It was a very moving experience. A lot of people were crying on the subway.


Robert & Barbara Walton, Tinton Falls and Valaida Albert, Neptune
Robert: I was at work in in Philadelphia. I remember everybody was in disbelief.
Barbara: I was at work. someone told me. I was dazed, not able to comprehend what that meant.
Valaida: I was at work also and someone said they had heard it. There was a lot of crying. Even the thought now of his assassination saddens me.

We were at a warehouse buying a crib for our baby; New Jersey warehouse on 35 in Wanamassa.
I remember how everybody looked so sad, everywhere you went.


Linda Oxley, Bradley Beach
I was in the 8th grade, in class and our teacher got a call to come outside.
He was told. He came back in and threw the eraser across the room.
I was real upset and scared. The teacher was normally a mellow man.


Thomas Carrington, Neptune
I was in the third grade. I remember coming home from school and my grandparents were upset.
I remember watching tv and little John saluting his fathers casket.

John: I was at work in the Criminal Court Building in Manhattan. I went down to the press room to get all the information. It was overwhelming, incredible. You just couldnt believe it.
Jean: I was at home with my first two kids. A neighbor, who was am immigrant from Germany and didnt speak good english, told me the president was killed. I told her she misunderstood the news report. You just couldnt believe it.


Grace Fiorentino w/Christina Cusack, Neptune
I was two days away from having my daughter, Christina.
I was sitting on the floor watching a soap. My mother-in-law lived downstairs. She hollered up to me.
