The Bradley Beach Board of Education filled its vacancy Tuesday night by appointing Barbara Feeley, a six year resident of the borough, to fill the seat.
The position was left vacant when board member Sean Sherman resigned in December. He had been a board member for a year and a half.
Feeley’s appointment is only valid until the new election, which will be held in April. She said she plans to seek election at that time.
Feeley is a retired educator, having taught at the high school level in California.
She said she has five grandchildren under the age of three and applied for the position because she is “missing kids.”
Feeley said she has worked as a guidance counselor at the high school level and as a dean of students in a middle school.
“I have loved every day of teaching,” she said. “I have no agenda.”
The new board member then went on to explain that her oldest child, who is 39, has Downs Syndrome.
“I have experience with special education,” she said.
All board members congratulated Feeley as she took her seat on the board after being sworn in.
