Ocean Lacrosse Blows Out Long Branch

By ANDREW CANGIANO

Led by five goals from junior midfielder Carly Lyster, the Spartans dominated Long Branch from the opening whistle in a 17-3 victory at home Monday.

With the win, Ocean improved to 7-3 on the season and has positioned itself nicely for the upcoming Shore Conference Tournament.

The Spartans jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead and never looked back. By halftime the outcome had all but been decided, as Ocean led 10-2.

With her team leading by eight goals, Ocean second year head coach Kristen Hall said she told her players to possess the ball and make smart decisions in the second half.

Her advice worked, as the Spartans continued to put the pressure on in the second 25 minutes, building their lead to 13-2 on junior Lynette Gomez second goal of the game.

Junior Abby Taylor finished off the scoring with 1:06 to play as she tallied her second goal.

Along with Lysters five scores, junior Jessica Himelman had three goals, senior Lyndsey Meyer had two, and junior Alyssa Bascom also had a goal.

Junior Becky Rant had two assists, and juniors Amanda Dilger and Regina Siciliano, and senior Lauren Pringle, had one assist each.

Hall said the Spartans finally played a solid game from start to finish and had an even offensive attack.

I think it was a well balanced game with multiple scorers, she said. It wasnt a one-man show.

Hall said her young team, which has only four seniors, must make a strong stand in the Shore Conference Tournament to earn its respect.

The Spartans will face a tough test when they face Red Bank Regional at home on Friday at 3:45 pm.
