Neptune Creates Harbor Commission to Govern Township Waterways
By ANDREW CANGIANO
Neptune officials introduced an ordinance this week which will govern the townships waterways.
A public hearing on the ordinance, which will create the Neptune Harbor Commission, will be held July 10.
The proposed harbor commission would consist of seven members: two members from the township committee, one citizen with a valid captains license, one resident of the townships Shark River Hills section, one citizen with an environmental background, one citizen with a recreational boating background, and one citizen member at large.
Members of the harbor commission would not receive compensation for their services. The commission will meet monthly as well as hold special meetings.
The chairman of the commission will be selected by its members at its organization meeting each year, and the township chief financial officer shall serve as the treasurer and the township clerk shall serve as the secretary.
The commission has the power to act independently on projects where the total expenditure is less than $2,500 and will need approval from the township committee for larger expenditures.
Among the powers and duties of the commission are to provide for management and regulation of properties within the Shark River harbor that are owned or leased by the township.
