Even though going back to school is not always something high school students look forward to, some students make it interesting by staying in style.
When several Ocean Township students were asked what they thought about going back to school, there were mixed responses.
Some say they are looking forward to school because they want to see their friends and they want something to do during the day. But most say they dont look forward to the stress, the workload, teachers, and tests that going back to school entails.
Or as Christina Aksamidova, 14, put it, I just dont like having to wake up before the sun rises.
These teens seem to be very busy during the school year with all of their extra-curricular activities. The most common being: sports, newspaper, yearbook, musicals, key, varsity, and language clubs.
Being busy, however, never kept any of them from keeping up with latest styles. After all, no one wants a visit from the fashion police.
When asked about styles and clothes, they had plenty to say.
As for whats in for the fall, most ticked off skinny jeans, earth tones, vintage, and as Mary Walsh, 15, stated, pink is so in.
Although many teens care about fashion, some would rather just wear whats comfortable.
My goal is to own a sweatshirt in every color, as Maria Tirone, 15, said.
When asked what the number one item was for going back to school, Jackie McGuckin, 14, gushed, I love my new tote bag.
Most would have been expected to say new clothes or accessories, but Christina just wants some stress-free music to help her calm down.
Then of course, where to shop and what to buy is a big deal, also.
While some teens like to stick to the highly popular stores, like Abercrombie and Fitch, American Eagle, Pac Sun, and Hollister, other teens are taking a different direction.
I want to change my style this year and make it more unique, says Christina, I go to New York a lot so I plan on getting some one of a kind accessories at thrift stores.
Some girls just want the usual – earrings, necklaces, bracelets, and belts. As for guys, they will be wearing tZumiez surfer tees and Hot topic band tees, Pac Sun tight skater pants, and Abercrombie polos.
Basically going back to school is a chance to show off your summer tan and strut your stuff in your fashionable new fall clothes, the teens say, in addition to learning.
So set your alarm, practice getting up early, and get shopping. School starts in less than a week.
