Former Bank to Open As Restaurant and Bar

By ELLEN CARROLL

The owners of Mattison Park, a new bar and restaurant on Mattison Avenue in Asbury Park, hope to open their new place within the next two months.

The town has so much to offer, said Erica Bernstein, 24, who along with her fiance, Kristian Karcich, 31, and his sister, Lisa, are the owners of the new business. When my fiance first walked into town there was something calling him. We saw what it used to be like. We both just got a wonderful feeling about it.

The three, who currently live in the Shark River Hills section of Neptune, have been working daily to get their business open. They may be in time for New Years Eve, Bernstein said, but if not then January.

The restaurant will specialize in gourmet pizza and will also offer a special tapas menu and 30 different types of martinis. The first floor will be the dining area with a large bar and fireplace.

You will be able to sit and have a martini and relax by the fire, Bernstein said.

The second floor will feature another bar with bottle service.

There will be little tables where you will be able to purchase a bottle so you dont have to keep getting up to get something, she said. It will be a more casual, intimate setting.

The Meistrich building on Mattison Avenue in Asbury Park is scheduled to open as a bar and restaurant.

The owners have tried to keep as much of the original brick work as possible in the building, which once housed a bank and then later was offices.

There will be a huge chandelier when you first walk in and crystal sconces on the wall will provide other lighting, she said. We designed it in the Edwardian era style. Theres a lot of wood work.

Mattison Park will also have live entertainment on various nights, including jazz and comedy.

When the restaurant does open, lunch and dinner will be served, Bernstein said, in addition to the tapas and gourmet pizzas.
