Guilty Plea in Shooting

In a plea agreement made Dec. 5, Antonio Williams, 30, formerly of Long Branch, pleaded guilty to fourth degree aggravated assault by pointing a firearm and third degree resisting arrest for a shooting incident Feb. 24, 2005 in Asbury Park.

The agreement calls for Williams to receive a three-year sentence in state prison with an 18-month period of parole ineligibility.

The shooting occurred when Williams left a motor vehicle and fired seven shots from a semi-automatic handgun at several individuals.

He then fled the scene and was seen by an eye-witness leaving the vehicle and running into the basement of a garage.

Investigators later confirmed the handgun matched the shell casings found at the scene.

Williams was taken into custody March 11, 2005 by law enforcement officials from the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office and the Asbury Park Police Department, at which time he fought with police as they attempted to process and interview him.

Monmouth County Prosecutor Luis A. Valentin praised police efforts, saying, “Based on the diligent and collaborative efforts of the investigating detectives in this case, a handgun was removed from the streets of Asbury Park and the person responsible for firing the handgun was brought to justice.”
