The Question is . . .

Should it be illegal to smoke in a car with youngsters in it?

Mary Fallon & Jen Zehler, Chat N Nibble

Mary: Id like to see someone get a ticket if they light up when Im in the car. Its too enclosed of a space.

Jen: I feel its a little over the top with regulation by the government.

I think there should be more of a focus on what American companies are selling and marketing to children.

Instant Kool-aid. Give me a break.

Santos Montanez & Ron Robinson, Asbury Park

Santo: Yes, it should be illegal. You got no business smoking around kids.

You dont want to ruin kids along with you.

Ron: I think it should be illegal if you cant ventilate to keep the smoke from them. Or a barrier, like in police cars.

Nancy Himsel, Neptune

Absolutely. second hand smoke is as deadly as smoking it yourself, so, in essence, youre killing your children.

And, its not consentual. Smoking drivers should be ticketed and fined heavily.

Victoria Schneider w/Hannah, Asbury Park

No. I think its ridiculous. If I want too make that decision I will myself. I dont need the government making it for me.

Im not a smoker, but thats how I feel – its ridiculous.

Shannon Sievers w/Lyle & Jessica, Wanamassa

Yeah, Im for it. Thatll work. When I see women driving with the windows up and the kids in the back – that irks me.

I dont think they realize how bad it can be – with no ventilation.

Second hand smoke is no good.

Marty Kantor, Asbury Park

I think its probably a good idea for health reasons. The children would be subject to a big concentration of smoke in a small space.

I think its very dangerous, and Im not sure t wont lead to addiction to cigarettes.

Exposure to nicotine increases the nicotine receptors, which, in turn, cry for more nicotine.

Joe Toomey w/J.T., Wayside

Joe: I think its horrible that parents smoke in the car. You see them smoking with the windows up. I think its a horrible thing.

If they want to hurt themselves thats one thing, but they shouldnt hurt the kids.

J.T.: I think its horrible that parents smoke with the kids.

Sometimes it affects parts of your body besides your lungs. It eats away your body parts; rots them.

I feel sorry for all the people that are affected by smoking and getting cancer from it and all the kids that have to breathe smoke while they are having fun with their parents.

Dan Baum, Asbury Park

No. i think if a parent wants to pass that on, i have no right to tell them what to do.

I quit smoking 4 years ago. im very happy

We dont legislate what people should do.
