One of the busiest volunteer organizations in Neptune City is getting bigger.
A rising number of programs and more participation have prompted the Borough Council to expand the Board of Recreation Commissioners by two members, to seven. Council adopted an amendment to allow Mayor Thomas Arnone to select the new members.

Two proposed student surveys were tabled by the Asbury Park Board of Education at its Jan. 18 meeting after Board Member Geneva Smallwood raised objections about the selection process.
A Neptune City man was arrested and charged with theft from a Boston Road residence Jan. 9.
Police said William Lundsteen, 24, was arrested by Det. James Isacson.
On Jan. 11 a 49-year-old Neptune City woman was charged with disorderly conduct at the Charline Motel. Police Officer Bradley Hindes made the arrest.

After years of getting the service for free, commercial entities in Tinton Falls will probably soon have to pay to have their trash hauled.
An Atlantic Highlands woman was arrested Jan. 15 and charged with fraudulently obtaining prescription drugs.
Police said Melissa Bader, 35, using the name Ann Ericksen at the Rite Aid Pharmacy on Shrewsbury Avenue, Tinton Falls, became disorderly after a prescription for Vicodin was not filled properly. She fled the store before police got there.

The number of Ocean Grove residents who attended a neighborhood watch forum Tuesday night sent a clear message: they are serious about reducing crime in the historic district.
The city of Asbury Park will be holding a public forum to discuss the Main Street Redevelopment Plan on Mon., Jan. 28 at 7 p.m. at the Council Chambers, located at One Municipal Plaza on the corner of Bangs Avenue and Main Street.

Asbury Park’s famous photo booth, sold to Vermont shop owners after more than three decades of operations at Palace Amusements and at a Boardwalk attraction, has been donated to Save Tillie and is being refurbished for eventual return to the city.
