Comedy Nights at Red Fusion

By DON STINE

Comedy is coming to Asbury Park in a big way at Red Fusion with some of the best acts in the area appearing every second and fourth Wednesday night of the month at the restaurant, located at Cookman Avenue and Bond Street.

On Feb. 7, Quad4Promotions presents the You So Crazy Comedy Jam, featuring Michael Shawn, Denny Live, and hosted by Kool Bubba Ice.

Showtime is at 9 p.m. and admission is $15.

Show promoter John Jackson, head of Quad4Promotions based in Eatontown, said the comedians performing at Red Fusion are some of the best around.

Michael Shawn is a very well-known morning talk show co-host on one of the most popular radio stations around- Hot 97 FM. His morning show, with hostess Miss Jones, is one of the highest ranking morning shows on the radio, he said.

Jackson said Denny Live and comedy show host Kool Bubba Ice are also extremely popular and will keep the night lively and entertaining with their hilarious comedic style.

Denny Live is a nine-time winner of Black Entertainment Televisions Comic View and the comedians have performed in major comedy clubs, including DEF Comedy Jam, BETs Comic Review, and Comedy Central.

My company used to do shows at the former Harrys Roadhouse so I approached the Red Fusion owner and set up to do it again. It should be great entertainment, he said.

Red Fusion owner Ron Rinaldi said his restaurant has a nice, separate room to accommodate special cabaret-type events, such as comedy or jazz, and can seat up to 150 people.

A stage, tables and chairs are setup nightclub style, with its own bar, and we are starting to book special events for that room, Rinaldi said.

Rinaldi said the restaurant already had two comedy nights that were quite successful.

I want Red Fusion to have a mix and have a little bit of everything. We can offer a good venue and I thought a comedy night might work out. The first two shows were good with a nice crowd. And it makes people laugh! The comedians are really funny, really good and I have high expectations for the next show. I hope this works out on a long-term basis, he said.

Jackson said the shows usually lasts about two hours and Rinaldi advises that, like most contemporary comedy shows, the humor can be a bit dicey at times.

Advance reservations can be made by calling Red Fusion at 732-775-1008 or by showing up the night of the performance.
