A Neptune City resident was charged by the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office with official misconduct, tampering with public records or information, and a disorderly persons charge for theft.
Harry Conover, 58, who is the county emergency management coordinator, was charged in connection with an incident occurring March 13. The prosecutors office said Conover, a Monmouth County employee since 1988, went to the Monmouth County Central Motor Pool on Center Street in Freehold Township with the privately owned vehicle of another county employee.
He obtained approximately 7.8 gallons of gasoline for the vehicle and subsequently completed a gasoline inventory form on which he falsely represented the gasoline as being put into his own assigned county vehicle.
Conover was released on summonses and the matter is pending review by a Monmouth County Grand Jury.
According to a press release from the prosecutor’s office Conover was, “at all times relevant to this matter.”
Gary McTighe, Monmouth County Deputy Emergency Management Coordinator, has been designated to serve as the Acting Coordinator of Emergency Management. Conover is currently on administrative leave.
