Allenhurst Woman Killed By Train

An Allenhurst woman was killed Monday evening by an oncoming train after stepping onto the railroad tracks as the train approached the Allenhurst station.

Seven years after a fire destroyed the Washington Village housing complex in Asbury Park, the city has kicked off plans to put a new residential facility at the site.

New Mayor in Allenhurst

David McLaughlin was sworn in as mayor of Allenhurst this week by Municipal Court Judge George Cieri. McLaughlin, who had served as a borough commissioner, was named mayor following the resignation of longtime mayor Joseph Coyne.

Parents of Asbury Park Baby Plead Guilty to Manslaughter

The parents of a 14-month-old son, who died due to severe malnutrition in 2004, pled guilty this week to manslaughter in connection with the babys death.
Tahjia Handberry, 25, of Asbury Park, and Wesley White, 28, of Neptune both acknowledged that their failure to obtain medical attention for their son, Jmeir White, resulted in his death.
