Burglary Suspect Arrested

By JOANNE L. PAPAIANNI

Bradley Beach police have made an arrest in two dozen car burglaries committed between June 11 and July 17.

Twelve of the burglaries occurred in Bradley Beach and 12 in Neptune City.

The arrest was the result of a joint investigation by both police departments.

Bradley Beach Police Chief Leonard Guida said Christopher Leonard Harris confessed to the 24 burglaries.

Harris, of Asbury Park, is currently staying at a boarding house on the 200 block of McCabe Avenue.

Although all of Bradley Beach’s case have been solved there are still 20 to 30 cases pending in Neptune City, which may involve Harris and some accomplices.

Each and every one of our car burglaries have been accounted for, Guida said.

Harris is being held at the Monmouth County jail in lieu of $42,000 bail, set by Judge Mark T. Apostolou, who is the municipal judge for both towns.

Bail in Bradley Beach was set at $12,000, with the remaining $32,000 in Neptune City.

Avon police have also reported numerous car burglaries, but Harris has not confessed to any of those said Guida.

Items stolen include cash and loose change, some of which was recovered and cell phones, which were used to track Harris in the investigation.

That helped, said Guida of the fact that Harris made calls on the cell phones he had stolen.

Guida said good old fashioned police work was used to solve the crimes with the Bradley Beach investigation headed by Det. Michael Ricciardi.

Guida said there were earlier reports that a lap top computer had been stolen, but in fact the case for the laptop was taken, but the lap top itself was later found by the victim.

A Sirius Satelitte radio was also taken from one vehicle.

Avon Police Chief Terry Mahon said a detective from his department was meeting with a Bradley Beach detective Wednesday to look through recovered items, mainly electronics, and see if they can be matched with those stolen from cars in his town.

Harris is due in court in Bradley Beach on July 31.
