Bradley Beach Official Wants Agendas Online
By JOANNE L. PAPAIANNI
Following through on her campaign promise to improve communication in the towns government, Julie Schreck, the newest member of the Bradley Beach Council asked that agendas be made available 72 hours before meetings.
She also would like to have it posted on the boroughs website at the same time.
Currently agendas are given to council members 24 hours before meetings.
Borough Attorney Michael Dupont said the boroughs business is conducted 24 hours a day, everyday, so changes would be likely within the 72-hour period.
The boroughs business is very fluid, he said.
Schreck agreed and said emergency changes could be made after the posting.
In a press release this week she said, Advance publication of agendas is common practice in business and among government entities.
Schreck believes having the agenda completed in advance would alleviate some of the last minute pressure face by borough workers.
I think we could all benefit from a more businesslike, orderly and transparent system, she said.
Council President Thomas Volante said the governing body should wait until the mayor, who was not at the meeting, was present.
Further discussion of the issue was postponed until the next council meeting August 14.
Councilman Gary Engelstad said he favored revamping the boroughs website, including the posting of the agenda.
I like the motivation, I like the idea, he said.
Borough Clerk Mary Ann Solinski said work on the website was planned for this week.
It will be more comprehensive, said Solinski.
