Retired Police Officer Arrested on Pornography Charges

A retired Deal Police Officer, who currently works in the Monmouth County Prosecutors Office, has been arrested on two counts of endangering the welfare of a child for possessing and distributing child pornography.

John B. Gregg, Jr. 54, of Avon, was arrested Sept. 26 by members of the prosecutors office and the New Jersey State Police Cyber Crimes Unit.

Gregg was released on his own recognizance after being charged.

Gregg was arrested as a result of an investigation that was initiated after a referral by the New Waterford Police Department in Ohio.

In July, a police officer from New Waterford, who was acting in an undercover capacity online, received an image of suspected child pornography.

It was later determined that the image was sent from an account registered to Greggs address in Avon.

An investigation revealed that Gregg possessed and distributed the image.

Gregg was immediately suspended without pay following his arrest.

Gregg retired from the Deal Police Department after 25 years as a Sergeant.

He has been working in the prosecutors office since 2001.

At the time of his arrest Gregg was assigned to the Trial Support Unit where he performed a variety of administrative duties.

If convicted of the second degree crime of distributing child pornography Gregg could face a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison.

The fourth degree charge of possessing child pornography could result in Gregg facing a maximum sentence of 18 months.

Monmouth County Prosecutor Luis A. Valentin said, Trafficking in child pornography is a destructive offense that causes repeated and lasting harm to its victims. This case demonstrates that those who possess or distribute child pornography will be vigorously investigated and aggressively prosecuted by law enforcement authorities regardless of who they are or where they work.

The prosecutor also reminds the public that every defendant is presumed innocent, unless and until they are found guilty under the law.

They should throw the book at this guy. As a former police officer, he should have known better. Once this guy goes to prison, the other inmates are going to use him as a human toilet. Which is better than he deserves!
