Neptune Librarian Chosen For Blue Ribbon Task Force
Marian R. Bauman, Neptunes llibrarian, has been appointed to serve on the New Jersey State Librarys Blue Ribbon Task Force on the Future.
Bauman, director of Neptune Public Library, was selected from among over 50 applicants to serve on the task force, which is charged with recommending how libraries can meet projected demographic changes that include serving groups of library users who are increasingly diverse and older.
The task force will also explore other trends and how libraries can fully utilize technological advances to better serve the public.
Neptune Public Library has always been at the forefront of technological innovation, and our residents expect and deserve the technology that makes their lives easier. The library is one place that visitors can use their notebooks with free wireless connectivity, as well as being the only choice for computing for over 84,000 users in the last five years. Books on Tape and CD, and VHS and DVD movies are other popular technologies that fly off the shelves at Neptune Public Library, Bauman said.
New Jersey State Librarian Norma Blake explained, At the State Library we are always looking to the future to find ways we can more effectively serve New Jerseys government, libraries and residents. I convened the Blue Ribbon Task Force composed of library staff from around the state who have the vision and excitement for shaping the future of New Jerseys libraries.
Bauman has been director of Neptune Public Library since January 2005. She is currently Vice-President of the Central Jersey Regional Library Cooperative and is also Vice-President / President Elect of the Monmouth Librarians Association. She has been a resident of Neptune for almost 30 years.
Over 50 New Jersey library professionals applied to participate on the task force, but the library had to limit its size to 26 members to keep it at a workable number. The task force will meet monthly through February and will submit a final report to the State Librarian that will ultimately be presented to the New Jersey Library Association Conference in April 2008.
