Market in the Middle, a Mediterranean bistro on Cookman Avenue in Asbury Park, served an estimated 300 dinners to the local community on Thanksgiving Day.
In addition to those who were welcomed for a sit-down dinner at the restaurant, more than 150 meals were carried out to local shelters, senior communities and the Asbury Park police department.
Opened from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Market in the Middle invited local community members to enjoy a hot meal surrounded by friendly faces during the Thanksgiving holiday.
The restaurant also accepted monetary donations, turkeys, hams and desserts, as well as hats, gloves and coats to help make the Nov. 22 soup kitchen a success. A group of volunteers helped serve food, welcome guests and fill to-go boxes with Thanksgiving favorites, including turkey, stuffing and mashed potatoes.
Plans for a Christmas Day soup kitchen at Market in the Middle are already slated. Food, monetary and garment donations will be accepted, and volunteers will be welcome to help staff the restaurant on Dec. 25.
Market in the Middle has also opened a Soup Kitschen kiosk in Asbury Park’s Convention Hall. Opened every Thursday, Friday Saturday and Sunday until Dec. 31, the restaurant’s Soup Kitschen kiosk will sell artisan cheeses, soups and breads.
Organizations including the Humane Society and the FoodBank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties will receive kiosk donations of canned goods and non-perishable items, and garment donations, including hats, gloves and scarves, will benefit Feeding Friendz.
Market in the Middle’s Soup Kitschen kiosk is opened from Nov. 23 to Dec. 31. Hours of operation are Thursday’s and Friday’s from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturday’s and Sunday’s noon to 9 p.m.
