Repairs Continue at Deal Casino

By DON STINE

The replacement of concrete decking around the pool at the Deal Casino on Ocean Avenue will continue under a contract recently awarded by the Borough Council. The council awarded the $245,434 contract to Nova Crete Inc., based in South Amboy.

The borough replaced half of the decking last year and this will complete the project, said Borough Administrator James Rogers.

Rogers said the borough received 10 bids for the project, with the highest bid coming in at $523,823.

Nova Crete was the low bidder, he said.

Municipal workers are now removing the old concrete and will also install raised flower beds and new lighting in the pool area.

Rogers said he expects the new concrete to be poured in about 30 days.

But obviously all of the work needs to be completed by Memorial Day weekend, he said.

Work at the borough-owned pool, which turned 50 years old last year, is covered under a previous bond ordinance.

Rogers said he believes a roof may need to be replaced at the Casino in the future but that such work is not proposed at this time.
