Neptune City’s Adams Field Wins Monmouth County Award
By JOANNE L. PAPAIANNI
Neptune Citys Adams Field has won an award for its recreational facilities.
Mayor Thomas Arnone said he called former Mayor Holmes Adams right away after learning that the athletic field that bears his name won an award.
I am very happy to announce, and with all the hard work, that an award was given out, the Charles M. Pike Award, Arnone said.
Adams Field was chosen among 20 towns to receive the Charles M. Pike Award. It is given out by the Monmouth County Park System.
The mayor credits the public works department for all their hard work.
They take a lot of pride in it, he said.
I called Holmes right away, Arnone said.
The award will be given out at a ceremony April 29 at the PNC Arts Center.
Arnone took the opportunity to remind residents that the Little League opening ceremonies are scheduled for Saturday at Adams Field.
Arnone himself was also honored recently at the New Jersey Conference of Mayors when he was appointed vice president of that organization.
Also at Monday nights meeting council auctioned off a police car.
The bids opened at $500, but two members of the audience went back and forth before the final bid was accepted at $950.
The car is a 1999 Ford four door sedan.
Updating progress on the Steiner Avenue Redevelopment Plan, the mayor also reported that redevelopers are waiting for appraisals to come back on four properties in the zone as the project goes forward.
I met with appraisers and walked through some of the properties, in about a week we should have preliminary numbers, Arnone said.
Council also accepted a donation of a utility truck from Neptune Township, which has been painted and given to the Office of Emergency Management.
They take the vehicle out on spills, Arnone said.
He said the vehicle will be equipped with funds raised in this years annual Mayors Ball, being held May 10.
Arnone also made two appointments to the OEM, Councilman Robert Brown and Robert Reynolds, Sr.
Council approved an ordinance for improvements to East End Avenue, Neptune Avenue and West Sylvania Avenue.
Of the $255,000 appropriated $192,000 is grant funding.
These improvements reflect the completion of all of the roads in the borough.
Something I think is a major accomplishment, Arnone said.
