City Man Charged in October Shooting Death of City Teen
An Asbury Park man was charged April 16 in the murder of another city man October 18.
Tywann Graves, 21, was arrested and charged in his role in the shooting death of Justin Johnson, 19, a resident of Asbury Park Village.
Graves is the second person charged in connection with the incident.
On October 25 police charged Antonio Allen, 19, of Willingboro, formerly of Asbury Park, with one count of murder based upon his involvement in the incident.
Allen remains in the Monmouth County Correctional Institute in lieu of $1,000,000 bail set by Superior Court Judge Paul F. Chaiet.
Judge Chaiet also set bail for Graves at $1,000,000.
On October 18 police were called to Asbury Park Village at about 10:20 p.m. when a report came in that shots were fired and a man was down.
Police found Johnson, lying on the ground with two gunshot wounds.
Asbury Park First Aid and M.O.N.O.C. paramedics arrived shortly after police.
Johnson was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center where lifesaving efforts were made.
He was pronounced dead at 11:15 p.m.
An investigation by city police and the Monmouth County Prosecutors Office revealed that Johnson was walking through Asbury Park Village when he was approached by two subjects from the rear.
Before he had a chance to run, two shots were fired, ultimately causing his death, and the subjects fled.
A week after the shooting investigators learned Allen was one of the two subjects who approached Johnson.
Further investigation revealed Graves to be the second person involved in the incident.
Monmouth County Prosecutor Luis A. Valentin said, “From the outset, it was evident that Allen was not the sole person responsible for Mr. Johnson’s death. Graves’ arrest is directly attributable to the tireless effort and thorough investigation conducted by the dedicated professionals of the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office and the Asbury Park Police Department.”
If convicted of murder, the maximum potential sentence is life imprisonment.
