Neptune Meetings To Stay at Senior Center
By DON STINE
The Neptune Township Committee meetings will continue to be held at the townships senior citizen center until further notice instead of the Summerfield School as previously announced.
Mayor Randy Bishop said delays on renovations and expansion to the senior center, at Neptune Boulevard and Route 33, have been postponed because of high bids on the project.
The Township Committee meetings will remain at the senior center until further notice, he said.
The committee has been holding its meetings at the center since the municipal meeting room in Town Hall is also under renovation.
Bishop said bids received for improvements to the senior citizens center seemed too high, which raised some concerns.
The proposed renovation included a 6,000-square-foot addition and other amenities to increase its capacity and its usability for various types of programs.
We have not awarded the bids and we are making sure we are making the best decision for the taxpayers and our senior citizens, Bishop said.
He said the governing body will look at its options, including the possibility of expanding the existing building or building at another site.
The Township Committee is still dedicated to expanding or somehow increasing the center. We have not stepped away from that commitment at all. We just want to make sure were making the best decision possible, Bishop said.
Township Committee meetings are held on the second and fourth Monday of the month.
