Neptune Police Present Courage Award for Help in Burglar Arrest

James Decker was presented the Award of Courage by the New Jersey Fraternal Order of Police at Mondays Neptune Township Committee meeting for his role in apprehending a burglar in Ocean Grove on May 22.
Decker, who is an employee with Ocean Grove-based Gannon Construction, observed a male who was acting suspiciously and notified his main office to call the police.
Decker then provided police with an accurate description of the man.
It was then discovered that the suspect had just committed a burglary and based on (Deckers) information we were able to identify and arrest the burglar, said Police Chief Howard ONeil, who is chairman of the state lodges Awards Committee.
It was Deckers recognition of what was taking place that enabled the police to take this criminal off the streets, he said.
Decker, on the other hand, thanked the Neptune police for their quick response to his information.
They were there in the blink of an eye, he said.
Scott Sansolo, an office manager with the Gannon company, said he made the 911 call to the police after Decker called him.
Jim was working on a lift near the roof of a building on Main Avenue and he could see down into the surrounding back yards. Thats when see saw a suspicious man wearing a black coat and called the office, Sansolo said.
