Teachers, Board Settle In Ocean

Contract negotiations between the Ocean Township Education Association and the Board of Education have been settled under a memorandum of agreement reached between the two sides.
The last contract expired in June 2007 and education association members have been working under the old contract ever since.
School board member Michael Beson, who headed the contract negotiating committee, said the board is satisfied with the agreement.
All sides came together and worked out an agreement thats best for our teachers and the taxpayers, he said.

Legality Question Over Police Chief’s Contract

Bradley Beach residents and police officers rallied around their police chief this week after a question arose about the legality of an employment contract between him and former mayor Steve Schueler.
On June 16, two weeks before Schueler left office, a contract was signed between the mayor and Police Chief Leonard Guida. The 14-page contract details Guidas employment for January of this year through December 2010. The contract calls for a $104,000 salary this year rising to $114,000 in 2010 and a longevity compensation of 12 percent of his annual base salary.

Bradley Beach Business Owner Decides Against Restaurant

The owner of the food processing warehouse on the corner of Main Street and Newark Avenue in Bradley Beach has removed his application to convert the building into a restaurant.
Ray Walsh, the owner of Beach Crepevine LLC, removed his application at the Board of Adjustment meeting when some residents opposed his plan. Walsh said he did not want to be a bad neighbor.

The Bradley Beach First Aid Squad, celebrating its 75th year, has had a front row seat at central New Jerseys major catastrophes, since being incorporated June 7, 1933.
There were only a few squads in the area, they went all over the place, said long time member Norman Wright.

Avon Restaurateur Celebrates Seven Years with New Heart

John Schneider, owner of Schneiders Restaurant in Avon, has a family that keeps on growing and if he has his say it will grow even more.
As the recipient of a heart, seven years ago, he is a member of a very exclusive club, but with emotions easily surfacing, he spoke of the donors and other recipients he has met as family.

Doors are at 7 p.m.
Boyds music is rooted in classic 50s rock and roll and pop progressions but also incorporates surf, latin and blues.
Recorded the true, old-fashioned way, live in a period of only eight hours, the release, 1.14.2008, is a tribute to all of Boyds influences.
