Asbury Park officials said they will begin enforcing the pay parking stations at the beachfront Aug. 15.
The system will be fully operational and strictly enforced starting on Fri., Aug. 15, said Asbury Park City Manager Terence J. Reidy. We want to ensure that parking is available close to the beach and businesses, and that these spaces are not occupied by employees or other long-term users.
Cost is 50 cents per hour, and the public must pay to park from 9 a.m. until 2 a.m. The new parking system is set up to allow 3-hour parking on Ocean Avenue, 6-hour parking on the side avenues along the immediate oceanfront blocks, and 12-hour parking in the next blocks to the west.

The new pay stations have been in operation for the past two weeks, although Asbury Park police have not been issuing tickets. The pay stations can be read from city hall as well as from handheld computers carried by the citys police force. Drivers must also park between the new striped lines of the numbered parking spots. Failure to pay for parking will result in either a warning or a parking ticket.
Reidy said that the introduction of pay parking stations is intended to help manage the availability of on-street parking. At this time, pay-to-park is only being enforced along the beachfront. Members of Asburys Citizens on Patrol, a civic volunteer group, will be walking the beachfront to assist drivers with the new pay-to-park stations.
