Its time again for the annual Clearwater Festival, scheduled for Aug. 16 and 17 in Sunset Park, Asbury Park.

The 33rd annual festival this year features Glen Burtnik, the Sensational Soul Cruisers, the Christine Martucci Band, Steel Mill, Mean Venus and others.

The festival runs from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. both days rain or shine.

The keynote speaker this year is Lois Marie Gibbs speaking about environmental justice.

More than 30 years ago singer Pete Seeger realized a dream by getting the Sloop Clearwater launched and spreading the word for a cleaner environment. Popular local folksinger, Bob Killiam, then brought the idea of the festival to Monmouth County.

Originally, the festivals were held at Sandy Hook. Several years ago, however, they were moved to Asbury Park.

This years event will also feature a special tribute by Long Branch musician Al Schnitzer to Helyn Chrobocinski who died last year. She was a longtime leader of Monmouth County Friends of Clearwater as well as being a talented singer who often sang at the festival.
