What do you think about the use of eminent domain?
Samantha Miller, Neptune & Jeana Bruno, Brick

We think its wrong to take someones property so someone else can build on it and make money off of it.

I think its way overboard. I took a real estate class course and they say its for the benefit of the city, but they took it too far.
Every time they want something now they say eminent domain.
Its the new key word.

I dont like it. I dont like the fact that people lose their homes and their businesses without enough say in the matter.

I think its extremely unfair to come in and take your home for whatever reason – to benefit other people.
I know a couple in East Orange who in their 90s lost their home to eminent domain. It wrecked their remaining years. One has died since.
Destroyed their lives.

As I understand it, eminent domain was originally supposed to be used for projects that were for the good of the general public.
Im opposed to the government taking private property to hand over to private developers for profit.
For government projects such as roads, airports, schools, things of that nature – I can see it.

We feel its totally against the constitution. And if you want it, you pay my price.
I have something you want, ok – pay me. Thats the American way.
Its un-American to take someones property, comrade, to give to a developer so he can make money.
Its against everything capitalism stands for.
The government should not name the price – especially if its being sold to a developer.

Well, we rent, so it doesnt bother us that much.
However, if we were homeowners and thought our home was in jeopardy of being taken – wed be very upset about it.
Its like taking a toy away from a child. They dont like it, naturally.
