Neptune Man Named Chief Warrant Officer

Michael William Donovan Jr. of Neptune has been appointed Chief Warrant Officer of the Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office.

Donovan, who was sworn in on Monday, Sept. 22, by Superior Court Judge Lawrence Lawson, is a 30-year veteran in law enforcement. He spent 23 years at the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office before retiring in the position of Lieutenant in 2005. Donovan was responsible for the investigations of major crimes, internal affairs, narcotic law violations as well as other violations of the criminal codes.

Prior to his work at the prosecutor’s office, Donovan worked for the Neptune City Police Department.

“Mickey Donovan comes to the sheriff’s office with a wealth of experience and I welcome him,” said Sheriff Kim Guadagno. “Mickey will lead our law enforcement unit with new innovative approaches and strategies when it comes to dealing with law enforcement challenges of the future.”

Donovan received his Bachelor of Science from Thomas Edison State College in Administration of Justice and attended the Federal Bureau of Investigation- National Academy.

Some of his notable achievements include analyzing more than 30 homicide cases as lead investigator and acting as principal writer of numerous high profile cases. Donovan was also selected to participate in a two-hour nationally televised debate concerning “The Bill of Rights” and law enforcement techniques.
