The legendary Stone Pony on Ocean Avenue in Asbury Park will be closed for an indefinite time for roof repairs but shows will continue at other city venues.
“We are finding out what needs to be done and examining our repair options,” said Courtney Johnson, marketing director for Madison Marquette, owner of The Stone Pony.
Johnson said the club is closed right now but the concerts will be either postponed or moved to the Paramount Theatre or the Wonder Bar, both at the intersection of Fifth and Ocean avenues.
To see the change of venues and for other updates Johnson suggests people go to www.theAsburyParkBoardwalk.com
“We want to start work quickly and do it as fast as possible in order to have the club reopened,” Johnson said.
Eileen Chapman, a former Stone Pony manager and an official in the Save The Stone Pony organization, said she is pleased that some movement is being taken to repair the roof that has leaked for many years.
“I hope they make adequate repairs that also help stabilize the roof and ensure the Pony continues its success and longevity in the building,” she said.
Wonder Bar manager Debbie DeLisa said she is working closely with Stone Pony manager Caroline O’Toole to make sure everything works out smoothly.
“We want all the bands, patrons, and employees to be happy,” she said.
DeLisa said that the employees now working at the Stone Pony will also work the Wonder Bar and Paramount shows.
“All the familiar faces you see at the Stone Pony will be working at these shows. Things will be ready to go,” she said.
