A question in many people’s minds these days, after they’ve struggled another month with their personal finances, is whether the previous year of an eroding economy will lead to an increase in crime rates. Though experts disagree on the full effect of a slowing economy on crime, recent reports of a rash of car break-ins in Neptune and Ocean Township have raised concerns.
“It’s hard to say if one has to do with other,” said Captain Kevin McDermott of the Ocean Township police force, which is currently investigating 10 car burglaries that took place between March 13 and March 17 in the Wayside section of the Township.
