Paid parking will return to the Asbury Park beachfront beginning May 15 if the recommendations of the city’s Parking Advisory Committe are approved by City Council.

Councilman Ed Johnson, who laid out the vision for the new plan at the council’s April 1 meeting, promises it won’t be the debacle witnessed last summer.

Johnson said members of the city’s Parking Committee, which he chairs, have worked diligently for months reviewing and revising the city’s paid parking plan on the beachfront.

    Once again, this is the wrong idea at the wrong time. Asbury Park officials shooting themselves in the foot. The economy is on the verge of a depression. Beach passes have risen to $50.00 for the summer. The initiation of the original program was a debacle which alienated AP visitors. Truly, this will be a case of amateurs achieving amateur results. M&M built a free lot on the south side by the Casino. Professionals….......we know you are out there?
