The almost century old BPO Elks Lodge 128/Charms building, off Cookman Avenue in Asbury Park was officially recognized this week as one of Preservation New Jersey’s 2009 Ten Most Endangered Sites.

The building, built in 1914, was the only historic structure in Monmouth County to receive Preservation NJ’s top designation.

Asbury Park Historical Society President Johna Karpinski said the Top-10 designation by Preservation New Jersey certainly gives much needed recognition to the importance of the old Elks Lodge and, on a state-wide level, shows just how important the historic architecture is in Asbury Park.
