City Hires Architect For New Firehouse Plans

Asbury Park officials are making another push for a new firehouse, a project that has been bandied about for decades but has run into financial hurdles in the past.

The difference this go around, they say, is that there is $210 billion earmarked in the Obama stimulus bill for local and state fire station upgrades and construction that could help offset costs.

At its recent meeting the City Council voted to spend up to $20,000 for an architect to draw up plans for a new facility. The money will come from funds leftover in an account for firehouse repairs.
