Though some of the titles may have changed, their vision has not, say the members of the Asbury Park City Council, which elected Ed Johnson mayor at the reorganization meeting Wednesday afternoon.
Johnson, who is the city’s first openly gay mayor, replaces Kevin Sanders, who served in the position for the last eight years.
“Eight years ago I was voted in as mayor in a town that most people didn’t want to visit let alone live in,” said Sanders, who won his third term on council in May and nominated Johnson for his new post. “It was with the help of this council that we moved beyond that. And this is still one team and we’re moving forward.”
