Christopher Shields of Asbury Park won’t be spending his summer lounging on the beach. The 16-year-old Asbury Park High School junior is heading for Washington, D.C. where he’ll spend four weeks working as a Page in the U.S. House of Representatives.
Shields, who starts his junior year at Asbury Park High School in September, signed up for the Page program at the suggestion of his Guidance Counselor, Melanie Risden, who gave him the application forms. But that was only the beginning of the process as Shields also had to apply to Congressman Frank Pallone and then get three letters of recommendation and write an essay on his reasons for wanting to participate.
