Three local women were honored in Trenton at an Episcopal Diocese of New Jersey Evensong Celebrating Older Adults.
It was sponsored by the Committee for Ministry with Older Adults on Sept. 28, the Eve of the Feast of St. Michael and All Angels, at Trinity Cathedral in Trenton.
The Right Reverend William Hallock Stokes. D.D. XII Bishop of New Jersey was the officiant with The Rev. Jane T. Brady-Close, co chair of the Committee for Ministry with Older Adults as preacher.
The three honorees were Barbara J. Brooks, Helen Pride and Mary Volak.
From Asbury Park’s St. Augustine Church, Brooks a cradle Episcopalian, has served in numerous capacities within the church.
She volunteers for the Sunday Feeding Program and works on the Alter Guild.
As a member of the guild she takes responsibility for the cleanliness of vestments and prepares the Sanctuary for Sunday, weekday and special services.
Brooks also offers help and support whenever and where ever she is needed.
Pride, also from St. Augustine’s was confirmed there over 50 years ago, becoming an active and faithful member..
She served on the Vestry, Altar Guild, St. Agnes Guild and Episcopal Church Women.
Pride was honored as t he Woman of the Year for St. Augustine’s. She is an active community member serving on the Board of Elections, Housing Authority and the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Post No. 266 in Neptune.
Pride died on July 16.
A faithful member of Trinity Church, Volak supports parish events and is an active participant in the Baptismal Blanket Ministry.
This ministry knits/crochets blankets which are given to parish members at their baptism.
As blankets are created, prayers are said for the person who will receive them.
