Asbury Park has a new firefighter with the recent hiring of city resident Richard Maher.
Maher, who has attended the county fire academy, will be sworn in Fri., June 30 at 1 p.m. in the City Hall Council Chambers.
His uncle Battalion Chief Thomas Gironda will attend.
Maher became involved in firefighting at the age of 13 as a Cadet with the Neptune City Fire Department.
When he turned 18, he became a volunteer firefighter in Neptune City and with the Shark River Hills Fire Department. He is currently a second lieutenant in Neptune City.
Maher grew up in the Shark River Hills section of Neptune and is a 2013 graduate of Neptune High School. He has lived in Asbury Park for the last two years and is an Emergency Medical Technician.
