Watch for Pirates in Bradley Beach

  The Bradley Beach Tourism Commission is hosting this year’s Bradley Beach Pirate Day on Sat., July 21.  The celebration will consist of town-wide Pirate-themed events, live music, entertainment for all ages and full Pirate Action All Day. Former Asbury Park Official Remembered

PAPAIANNI Flags at Asbury Park’s City Hall flew at half mast this week to honor former assistant city manager and Pop Warner coach, James Famularo, 52, who died tragically in a fire in his Park Avenue home on Mon., July 9. He was at home looking for his wife, Shonna, when the fire broke out Monday afternoon and he was overcome by the smoke and flames. Meanwhile, Shonna, was on the second floor and jumped off the balcony breaking her leg. Neptune Parents Concerned About School Safety

  By DON STINE Using the Summerfield School in Neptune as a primary polling place is a concern to some parents who, citing safety and security issues, want the school board to end the practice. The primary election was held in the school on June 5. “Our primary concern is that the school is open to the public while kids are there. The school was wide open and anyone could walk in. Asbury Park Man Named Community Relations Director at Brookdale

  Brookdale Long Branch Center Director and former Asbury Park Mayor Ed Johnson was appointed Executive Director of Governmental Affairs and Community Relations by the Brookdale Board of Trustees recently. In his new position he reports to BCC President David Stout and serves as a member of Cabinet and the Senior Executive Leadership Team (SELT). Official duties include promoting and enhancing the institution and higher education as a whole and providing strategic direction in directing and managing the College’s external community and governmental relations activities. Free Family Day at City Beach

  The Surfrider Foundation: Jersey Shore Chapter is hosting its 12th Annual Free Family Day on the beach in Asbury Park, Sat., July 14 beginning at noon on the North Beach at the Eighth Avenue entrance. Beach access and food is free. Free transport to the beach leaves at 11:30 a.m. from the Boys and Girls Club; Mercy Center; and West Side Community Center. What a Weekend at the Shore

  As July 4 dawned shore residents were treated to a some cooler temperatures following the 90-plus degrees over the weekend and into early this week. Asbury Park’s Beach Utility Manager, Gary Giberson, couldn’t be any happier with this year’s start to the summer season. “We’re off to a great start, I don’t think it could be any better,” he said. “It was insane, in a good way.” Giberson said the weekend brought in about $176,000 in beach revenues. Free Golf for Kids in July in Ocean

  July is Family Month at William F.
