Avon and Bradley Beach have agreed to share municipal court services, ending a previous arrangement both boroughs had with Neptune City.
Borough Administrator Timothy M. Gallagher said at this week’s Board of Commissioners meeting that Neptune City asked for a cost increase of more than 100 percent to renew the previous shared services agreement with the other two boroughs.
Gallagher said the three-year contract with Bradley Beach will cost less than the Neptune City deal before the proposed increase. The administrator said the price will not increase over the term of the agreement.
The board also approved the transfer of a 1987 GMC garbage truck to Bradley Beach at no cost.
During their workshop meeting, the commissioners discussed changing some of the policies at the municipal marina.
The cost of boat slips will be reduced to $125 per foot, down from the existing rate of $145. The borough is hoping to lease more slips with the lower cost.
There will be a three-night limit on the amount of time owners can stay overnight on their boats. The hours of operation at the marina will be expanded but boaters will be asked to restrict idling early in the morning and late at night as a courtesy to neighbors.
The commissioners plan to take action on the new marina regulations at their next meeting on Dec. 12.
The borough’s web site, avonbytheseanj.com, now includes descriptions of two municipally owned properties being sold at auction on Dec. 8.
Avon acquired the former Taylor Memorial Baptist Church and an adjacent home after previous efforts to sell them failed. The borough spent $1.2 million to buy the property and demolish the church. The lot was then subdivded in two.
The minimum bid for the home, which was used as a parsonage, and the land it sits on will be $750,000. The starting price for the vacant land is $675,000. A bid package is available at the municipal building for $25. The auction will take place at the marina.
Mayor John B. Magrini invited residents to attend the annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony at the municipal building Sun., Dec.4. A puppet show is scheduled for 4 p.m. followed by the tree lighting at 5 p.m.
