The B Plot: Wana-what trivia?

“You live where? Wana-who? Wanamassa? Oh, yeah, that’s a cute area…what’s the story with it?”

Something to that effect is how the conversation usually goes when I tell someone where I live.

I wanted to learn more of the beautiful area’s history and story, so I went right to the experts at the Ocean Township Historical Museum on Deal Road and discovered a ton of fun and interesting trivia. Such as:

Bradley Beach Recreation Hosts Back to School Festival Sept. 26

The Bradley Beach Recreation Center on Main Street will again be the site of the second annual Back to School Festival Sept. 26.

The event is being sponsored by the Bradley Beach Friends of the REC, Bradley Beach Recreation, Neptune City Playground Committee and Neptune City Recreation.

Admission is $12 and provides access to all rides and activities, excluding food.

60 Nudes Participate in Shoot At City’s Convention Hall

Photographer Angelo Musco’s nude photo shoot at Asbury Park’s Convention Hall Arcade last weekend went off without any problems with about 60 models participating.

“It was a great success. There were people from Asbury Park, Ocean Grove and people also drove in from other areas,” said Tim Brazier, who assisted on the project.

Musco is well-known for his artistic photographs using nude people to create unusual images.

Melba Moore to Perform At Asbury Park Mayor’s Ball

Asbury Park lights up on Saturday, Sept. 26 at the 7th Annual Mayor’s Ball which will feature a performance by musical artist and Broadway star, Melba Moore.

The event takes place at the Berkeley Oceanfront Hotel beginning at 6 p.m.

Sponsored by the arts organization Black 2 Work, Moore will also present a college scholarship in support of the arts to an Asbury Park student. Each year the mayor’s ball raises thousands of dollars in proceeds to help support college scholarships and recreation programs for Asbury Park youth.

The B Plot Million dollar music video

Rarely is there feel-goodness, pure joy and wonderful frivolity set to song the way six guys from New York City – one with a home here in Asbury Park – did it here Sunday of Labor Day weekend.

New Yorkers Adam MacLean, Chris Bush, Chris Lucia, Jeffrey Kummer, Brian Matthew Maloney and John Barbato (Asbury Park homeowner) produced a fun, dancey, sexy, bubblegum-pop and energetically choreographed three-minute summer homage music video with Whitney Houston’s new song “Million Dollar Bill” and are now an unqualified internet sensation – taking Asbury Park with them on their internet whirlwind.

Residents Invited to Bare It All in Asbury Park

If you ever wanted to bare it all in Asbury Park then perhaps you should answer the casting call for photographer Angelo Musco’s new project at Asbury Park’s Convention Hall at midnight Sat., Sept. 12 and into Sunday morning.

Musco is well-known for his artistic photographs using nude people to create unusual images.

“It’s a chance to get outside of your comfort zone and it will probably be an once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” said Mark McDonald, a local realtor. “And we will all be posing nude- for the entire time. Yes, you heard it right! Butt naked.”

The B Plot: Major home monikers

As I settled into the area almost five years ago, I noticed some homes proudly touted fun, dramatic and creative monikers.

No one I spoke with knows how the trend began, however it’s a swell idea and adds another layer of charm to our city.

I spoke with a few Asbury Park homeowners regarding the genesis of their home’s name.
