The event is being sponsored by the Bradley Beach Friends of the REC, Bradley Beach Recreation, Neptune City Playground Committee and Neptune City Recreation.

Admission is $12 and provides access to all rides and activities, excluding food.

In Ocean Township, Superintendent Thomas Pagano said his office had received 50 or 60 phone calls from parents who objected to the speech and said they would keep their children home if the school chose to air it.

“I would call it a firestorm of protest. I have never seen anything like it,” Pagano said.

The schedule for all Back to School Nights is: Summerfield School, Wed., Sept. 9 at 6:30 p.m.; Shark River Hills Mon., Sept. 14 at 6:30 p.m.; Gables School Wed., Sept. 16 at 6:30 p.m.; Midtown Community School Thurs., Sept. 17 at 6:30 p.m.; Early Childhood Center Mon., Sept. 21 at 6:30 p.m., Green Grove School Tues., Sept. 22 at 6:30 p.m.; High School Tues., Sept. 29 at 7 p.m. and Middle School Thurs., Oct. 1 at 7 p.m.

Visitors are asked to bring non-perishable food items, (cans, boxes, no glass) to Back to School Nights to support the local food banks.

The event is being sponsored by the PRIDE in Education Committee.

“It’s not going to be easy,” Lowe said of her mission to get Asbury Park schools off of the list of districts in need of improvement, “but we are dedicated to that goal.”

Lowe, who was born and raised in Philadelphia but spent most of her professional career in New York, has some experience in turning struggling schools around. She most recently spent five years in Central Islip on Long Island as the district’s Director of Curriculum and Development. When she took the position the district had four schools on “the list.”

Gagliardi, a former Commissioner of Education, was hired at Monday night’s board meeting.

Gagliardi holds a bachelor’s degree in education and a master’s degree in administration from Kean University.

Rain date is Aug. 30 from 2 to 6 p.m.

This year’s Honorary Chairs are Mayor Ed Johnson and Barbara Lesinski, president of the Asbury Park Board of Education.

This event is being planned in cooperation with community members involved with the Westside Citizens United and other local agencies, youth organizations and businesses.

Baldwin, along with all other Loch Arbour residents, just received a huge increase in their local school tax bill.

“It’s just ironic that both my husband and I were teachers and now we are being forced out by higher school taxes. I think we have paid more than our fair share of school taxes in the past,” she said.

Superior Court Judge Thomas W. Cavanagh Jr. heard procedural arguments from both sides in an attempt by Loch Arbour to have an injunction issued to halt the tax increase, which is scheduled to go into effect July 1.

“We are seeking a preliminary injunction to keep the (school tax) status quo until a summary hearing, with testimony, can be held later,” said Michael Schottland, the Freehold-based attorney representing Loch Arbour.

The letters Q and U were joined in “matrimony forever” by Mayor William Larkin at a ceremony replete with paper wedding bell centerpieces, cake and dancing.

After students marched into the cafeteria, the girls holding Q and the boys holding U, Larkin proceeded to marry the two letters who he said will be forever joined to make words such as quiet, quest, queen, quarter and quilt.
