Something to that effect is how the conversation usually goes when I tell someone where I live.

Neptune City Woman Found Dead in Apartment

A Neptune City woman, found dead in her apartment at the Brighton Arms complex on West Sylvania Avenue Monday morning, is now the focus of a murder investigation.

According to Michael Cunningham of the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office Jonelle E. Melton, 33, was discovered after police and first aid responded to a 911 call.

The call, said Cunningham, came in at 9:07 a.m. Monday morning.

A cause of death has not been released pending an autopsy.

In Tinton Falls Let There Be Light, Say Parents

Discussion of what upgrades should be made to Liberty Park II in Tinton Falls, the home field for Monmouth Falcons Pop Warner Football, drew droves of parents, coaches, players and cheerleaders to the Tinton Falls municipal building Tuesday night and their message was loud and clear; they want lights on their playing field.

The proposed redesign for the park, located on West Park Avenue and 37 acres in size, included expanded parking, a “tot lot” playground for younger children, rain gardens, a picnic area and lighting for the parking lots but not for the fields. To many present in the audience, the proposal was unacceptable.

“It’s no football field without lights,” said Liberty Drive resident Robert Caizza, the first of many to address council requesting lighting for the field.

Neptune Discusses Shuttle Bus Program Under Review

Tourists and residents along the Jersey Shore between Belmar and Long Branch will find it a bit easier, and perhaps cheaper, to travel under a shuttle bus program being considered by New Jersey Transit and Monmouth County.

NJ Transit is working with the Monmouth County Transportation Council and the county Planning Board to institute the program under a federal greenhouse gas reduction program.

Neptune City Going Batty In Effort to Kill Mosquitos

Neptune City is going batty in its quest to kill the mosquito population in town.

Phil Allegro, of the Environmental Committee, did a presentation at Monday night’s council meeting about bats and how they are natural predators of mosquitoes.

Allegro displayed a bat house, with three levels that he said could house 15 to 20 bats.

Bradley Beach Recreation Hosts Back to School Festival Sept. 26

The Bradley Beach Recreation Center on Main Street will again be the site of the second annual Back to School Festival Sept. 26.

The event is being sponsored by the Bradley Beach Friends of the REC, Bradley Beach Recreation, Neptune City Playground Committee and Neptune City Recreation.

Admission is $12 and provides access to all rides and activities, excluding food.

60 Nudes Participate in Shoot At City’s Convention Hall

Photographer Angelo Musco’s nude photo shoot at Asbury Park’s Convention Hall Arcade last weekend went off without any problems with about 60 models participating.

“It was a great success. There were people from Asbury Park, Ocean Grove and people also drove in from other areas,” said Tim Brazier, who assisted on the project.

Musco is well-known for his artistic photographs using nude people to create unusual images.

Melba Moore to Perform At Asbury Park Mayor’s Ball

Asbury Park lights up on Saturday, Sept. 26 at the 7th Annual Mayor’s Ball which will feature a performance by musical artist and Broadway star, Melba Moore.

The event takes place at the Berkeley Oceanfront Hotel beginning at 6 p.m.

Sponsored by the arts organization Black 2 Work, Moore will also present a college scholarship in support of the arts to an Asbury Park student. Each year the mayor’s ball raises thousands of dollars in proceeds to help support college scholarships and recreation programs for Asbury Park youth.

Avon to Participate in Study Analyzing Shared Services

Avon officials have agreed to participate in a study which will analyze the feasibility of sharing services with neighboring towns.

At a meeting Monday the commissioners debated whether the borough should pay $2,800 towards a study, already supported by five neighboring towns, that will analyze the feasibility of sharing certain services among the participating municipalities.

The study, supported by Belmar, Bradley Beach, Lake Como, Neptune and Neptune City, is 75 percent complete and mainly concerns police and municipal court services including dispatch, prisoner detention, use of K-9 units, and management among other aspects.
