Traffic Lights to Be Removed from City’s Grand Avenue

Neptune Police Investigating Ocean Grove Burglaries, Theft

Neptune police are investigating several burglaries and break-ins in Ocean Grove over the weekend.
Police said the break-ins took place late Saturday night into Sunday when residents were home.
The incidents happened on Ocean Avenue, Bath Avenue and Atlantic Avenue.

Search Is On For Bank Robber

Central Jersey Bank robberInvestigators from the Monmouth County Prosecutors Office are looking for a man who robbed the Central Jersey Bank on Main Street in Bradley Beach Tuesday morning.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Bradley Beach Police Department are also involved in the investigation.
Police Chief Leonard Guida said the robbery was committed by an adult, white male at about 10:30 a.m.
The man entered the bank and handed a note to the teller demanding money.

Brick Man Indicted For Carjacking in Neptune

A Brick Township man was indicted May 1 by a Monmouth County Grand Jury which charged him with first degree carjacking and armed robbery at the Route 33 Walgreens in Neptune.
Michael Hodnovich, 29, was also charged with third degree theft and additional charges for unlawful possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose.
The incident occurred at about 11:30 in the morning of February 28 at the Walgreens Pharmacy on Route 33.
Police responded to a call about a car taken from a 78-year-old woman who had parked at the pharmacy and was preparing to go into the store.

Hearing Set for Interlaken Case

A hearing on lawsuit filed by an Interlaken resident charging borough officials withheld public information about the fate of the local police department will be heard in Superior Court on June 3.
Superior Court Judge Lawrence M. Lawson, seated in Freehold, met this week with Interlaken attorney Dennis Crawford and Walter M. Luers, who represents Robert Napoli the Interlaken residents filing the suit.
I feel the law suit has definite traction and feel confident that our position will be supported by the judge, Napoli said.
Napoli, a former councilman, filed the suit earlier this month charging borough officials held meetings regarding the fate of the police department in private and withheld public information in the matter from the public all in violation of the states Sunshine Law.

City Man Charged in October Shooting Death of City Teen

An Asbury Park man was charged April 16 in the murder of another city man October 18.
Tywann Graves, 21, was arrested and charged in his role in the shooting death of Justin Johnson, 19, a resident of Asbury Park Village.
Graves is the second person charged in connection with the incident.
On October 25 police charged Antonio Allen, 19, of Willingboro, formerly of Asbury Park, with one count of murder based upon his involvement in the incident.
Allen remains in the Monmouth County Correctional Institute in lieu of $1,000,000 bail set by Superior Court Judge Paul F. Chaiet.
Judge Chaiet also set bail for Graves at $1,000,000.

Former Asbury Park Police Cadet Indicted on Theft Charges

A former Asbury Park police cadet has been indicted for theft by deception in connection with collecting unemployment while he was employed by the city in 2006.

Feron McGhee, 26, of Asbury Park was employed by the city as a police cadet.

He was hired as a patrolman in January 2006. He was attending the Monmouth County Police Academy and was scheduled to graduate and begin duties as a patrol officer in June 2006. He was being paid as a full time employee of the department at an annual rate of $38,000. Upon graduation and assumption of his duties as a patrol officer, he would have received an automatic pay increase to $49,000 per year.
