Deal Lake: Making Plans for Its Future

Donna Logden, owner of the Sunset Landing in Asbury Park, is no stranger to Deal Lake and its problems, particularly flooding.

Rescue efforts responding to a recent airplane crash into the Shark River were severely hampered by deep silt, and Neptune officials are urging Wall Township officials and residents to let a river dredging project proceed by providing a dewatering site for the silt.

Bulkhead Project Nears Completion

The new bulkheads circling Sylvan Lake will be 50 percent complete very soon.
At its meeting June 10 the Bradley Beach Borough Council approved additional funding to complete phase IV of the project bringing the total amount of footage around the lake to 550 feet. The lake is located between Bradley Beach and Avon.
Council approved a total of $400,000, with $194,000 being funded through a Community Development Block Grant.
According to Borough Engineer Philip Kavanaugh, the program began west to east with the areas closer to the ocean being shorter.

Officials, Residents Plan Bright Future for Wesley Lake

Officials from both Asbury Park and Neptune came together Friday to remember how Wesley Lake looked back in the day and to make plans for a brighter future for this body of water between Asbury Park and Ocean Grove.
Michael Brantley, deputy mayor of Neptune and chairman of the Wesley Lake Commission said at a press conference Friday that the commission will apply for a permit to dredge the lake.

Neptune to Receive $550,000 for New Park

Neptune Township has received $550,000 in state grant money to develop a park on West Lake Avenue under the townships West Lake Avenue Redevelopment Plan.
It will be a passive park and entertainment area where community events, farm markets, and events of that nature will be held, said the townships Chief Financial Officer Michael Bascom.
Bascom said the township received $150,000 of the grant money in a previous year and recently received a letter confirming receipt of the final $400,000.
