Allenhurst police arrested a man Oct. 19 and charged him with assaulting a police officer.
Police said at approximately 8 pm, the Allenhurst Police Department received a report of a suspicious person, loitering outside a Main Street business.
Upon the officer’s arrival, the subject provided false information, as to his identity, to the officer. Shortly thereafter, the 22-year subject attempted to flee from the officer, on foot.
After a brief struggle, the subject was taken into custody. The Allenhurst First Aid squad also responded due to the officer being bloodied during the apprehension. The officer was treated on scene by first aid personnel. The arrestee was also treated at police HQ, for lacerations he received, during the apprehension.
The suspect was charged with aggravated assault on a police officer, possession of a controlled dangerous substance (without a legal prescription), resisting arrest, hindering his own apprehension (by providing false information to a law enforcement officer), and disorderly conduct. He was also found to be a wanted person, out of Essex County Superior Court. His bail was set at $12,500, with no 10 percent cash option, and he was committed to the Monmouth County Jail, in default of bail. Ptl Scott Rapolla was the arresting officer and he was assisted by Deal PD officers.
