Four veteran Neptune police officers were promoted at this week’s Township Committee meetings.

Sergeant Michael Zarro was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant and Patrolmen Vincent Letsch, Brice Byham and Matthew Webb were promoted to the rank of Sergeant.

The four officers showed “devotion, hard work and dedication” during their tenure within the police department, Police Commissioner and Township Committeeman Nicholas Williams said.

Zarro has been on the police force for 21 years and has served in various leadership roles in the department, including with the traffic bureau, community outreach program, and special assignments.

“He serves as the liaison to many community groups and partner agencies and has spearheaded our township-wide traffic calming program,” Police Director Michael Bascom said.

Letsch has been with the police department for 15 years and has served as a detective, field training officer, and on the street crimes unit. He has received several commendations for his community service, including two Monmouth County 200 Club Awards.

Webb is a 10-year department veteran and began as a police dispatcher and became a patrol officer. He has served as a detective and field training officer. He also has received several commendations and a Monmouth County 200 Club Award.

“He is known throughout Neptune for his community interactions, both on and off duty,” Bascom said.

Byham has been on the force for 11 years and also began as a dispatcher before becoming a patrolman. He has served as a school resource officer, on the street crimes unit, and participated in state and regional investigative units. He has received several accommodations and a Monmouth County 200 Club Award.

Zarro is a graduate of Neptune High School and holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science with a concentration in Criminal Justice. Letsch has a Bachelor’s Degree in Business.

Webb graduated from Neptune High School, where he played football. Byham also serves as an Ocean Grove volunteer firefighter and is a former lifeguard.
