Has your opinion of Governor Christie gone up or down in the past year?

Ray Villa w/Aidan, Red Bank - I’ve always been a Christie fan, so it’s the same. I’ve been a supporter. I think he’s done a good job and continues to do a good job.

Chris DeRise & Ira Ausfresser, Ocean - We’re both school psychologists and our opinions couldn’t go any lower. He’s been anti-education since day one. Property taxes are sky high. Businesses are running from New Jersey. And now he’s an absentee governor.

Frank Farrell, Ocean - I would say down. I don’t think he’s spending enough time in the State. I don’t think he’s done enough for education. And, number three, we haven’t seen a raise in state pensions since I don’t know when.

David Garcia & Lance Brooks, Tinton Falls - Lance: My opinion is about the same. He’s obviously concentrating more on being president then running the state, and he has been for the last year. I’m waiting to see him duck the next Bridgegate. David: I feel basically the same. I feel he’s a hot head and comes off as a bully. The leader of a state should be able to keep his cool when confronted by someone who’s irritating him.

Carol Giroud, Asbury Park - It’s gone down in the last year. It’s a combination of that bridge affair and increasing acts of bullying. I hope he doesn't run for president because he’s not a statesman. He’s not presidential material.

Pat King, Wanamassa - Down. Basically it’s because of all these trips he’s taking. If he’s president he can run the country. But he’s governor, and he should run the state.

Ed Davidoski & Susan Whitehead, Bradley Beach - We think he did well with Hurricane Sandy when it first happened. Ed is a teacher and we don’t like the way he’s treated the teacher’s union. Personally we wouldn’t mind having a beer with him, so it’s going to be a tough call if he runs for president. It will be interesting to see who the Democrats put up.

Irene & Jeff Gilman, Oakhurst - Irene: My opinion was never high to begin with. I feel he is a very poor role model in the state. As a teacher, we try to quell bullying and here is someone in a very high profile position showing the very behavior we are trying to eliminate. Jeff: My opinion has gone down, especially in the past two weeks. He has a personality problem; anger management problem. It’s not a style, it’s a flaw. How he got to be governor amazes me.

Should NFL commissioner Roger Goodell resign?

Darth Vadar, Planet Alderon - Some of the players seem to have gone to the dark side. He has to use the force to get them to clean up their acts.

Nick Bergan, Keyport - No, I don’t think he should resign. He’s not the best commissioner the NFL ever had, but he's not the worst. Plus, I just like to watch the games. I don’t get involved in politics.

Almando Cordero, Beckman’s - Roger Goodell should not resign. He’s doing the best he can in a complicated situation. He should have told the truth in the beginning about the tape, but he shouldn’t resign. It’s like Barack Obama being blamed for every little thing. That’s what happens when you’re in charge.

Mike Donatoni, Belmar & Marcell Del Corpo, Toms River - We agree that he shouldn’t resign. We all know that when you are the top dog, you pay people to do certain things. He didn’t beat his wife, he didn’t do anything wrong. People like drama and just jump on things. It’s not about the game it’s about someone’s personal life.

Dave Duncan, Asbury Park - I think Roger Goodell has nothing to do with the private affairs of Ray Rice. He didn’t do anything. If you don’t like what’s happening, don’t go to the games. That way you can take it out on the league, but the league didn’t do anything. I don’t watch football, but I believe in human rights.

Donna Esposito, Long Branch & Denise Lemmon, Bradley Beach - We say no, he shouldn’t be forced to resign. It wasn’t handled properly from the start. It’s the same old, same old, with the cover-up, but he shouldn’t lose his job for it. Michael Vick is still playing, and look at what he did with the dogs. Because they’re celebrities it’s blown out of proportion. It happens everyday.

Wanda Kinard w/Mya Fisher, Neptune - If they find out that he withheld information, then he should resign. There’s no reason for a man to put his hands on a women or a child. Losing some of his sponserships and a lot of fans is not good for football. And we’re big football people. It’s sad.

Marion Lynch, Wanamassa - Yes, he should. Absolutely, they have to set an example that they’re going to change football. You see all the horror stories that came out about football lately, with Penn State and the pros, it’s time to change the image.

Nick Moore, Neptune - There’s no reason for him to resign. He admitted he mishandled the situation. If we all got fired for mishandling a situation, there would be a lot of unemployment. He makes money for the owners and they’re standing by him. That’s the bottom line.

Poncho D., Neptune - Here’s the thing, he’s the commissioner, not a babysitter. He can’t control what goes on behind closed doors. If he should resign for that, Christie should resign for Bridgegate. As for the child getting hit with a switch, in my time we were sent to get the switch. It wasn’t about child endangerment, it was about discipline. Should he resign - no. And those bandwagon jumpers - it’s getting out of hand.

Steve Rubenstein, Ocean - I want to remain neutral on that one. I’m just glad Michael Vick is no longer playing for the Eagles. (Over the dog incident). I think he should be in jail. I stopped watching football for 3 years because of that. Rand Paul 2016!

The Question Is….

Should professional athletes be held accountable for their off field antics?

Marilyn Tomaino, Ocean - It depends on the severity of it, I think. People have a right to their privacy, to an extent. What Ray Rice did was despictable. He deserves whatever penalty he’s dealt. What kind of message does this send?

Charlie Anteby, Elberon - My answer is absolutely. They have an obligation to serve as role models. There's a lot of fans out there who look up to those players, and they have an influence. So when we see abuse from them on their spouses and children, it has an influence. I’m more appalled by the abuse of the kid. What happened to the wife was awful, but the kid was worse.

Don Barlett, Neptune - Definitely. I think everybody should be held accountable for their actions. Besides the fact that kids look up to them. I don’t think any man should punch a female. I guess he’s going to get what he deserves.

Sal & Sam Boyd, Allenhurst - Yes. definitely. They’re role models for children, more than anything. They need to be held accountable and, perhaps, one day they’ll realize the consequences. Antics are antics, everybody should be held accountable, no matter who you are.

Marc Ellington, Laquella Johnson, Wall & Mina Wilson, with the youngsters of Asbury Park Pop Warner - Yes, they should. A lot of people look up to professional athletes. They represent a lot more then just playing. They need to be held to a higher standard. Kids see these things on TV and they don’t know if it’s okay or not.

Dan Sheridan, Ocean - Yes, they should. It’s a private business. they have a reputation to uphold. They’re role models. The NFL has an image to uphold. It’s a business; a brand. It’s the most popular sports brand in the US. I think anyone should be held accountable for their actions outside or anywhere, as it could impact their employment.

Mary Ann Shorter, Asbury Park - Of course. You shouldn’t beat your wife. You shouldn’t beat your kids with a stick, so bad he had to go to the hospital. We used to get smacked as a kid, even in school, but not like that. You don’t know what goes on behind closed doors.

Jay & Stacy Stark, Allenhurst - Yes, we do. There is a moral conduct code that the athletes agree to when they sign their contract and domestic violence clearly violates the code of conduct.
